that was the start of the Great War. the invaders didn't just come from the sky. there were others who had been around much longer. they spent this time building their infrastructure & formulating their own plan for the island. this planet was common knowledge among the star people. it was one of the most unique configuration of elements to exist with an atmosphere that didn't just sustain life - it caused it to thrive. it was coveted by all therefore only the most advanced civilizations dared to approach it.
that brings us to the island. this particular area of the earth contained the most incredible range & depth of minerals they had ever seen. it was more surprising that it hadn't been captured before now. except that it had been. unbeknownst to the human population above, another race of beings had infiltrated their land from below. this race of cephalopod/human hybrids had been hard at work below the surface. up until now there had been no need to interact with the humans above ground. they had been able to construct a system of tunnels in order to extract all that they wanted at their own pace. but the enemy was here now. there was no other option. this was war.
they assembled their troops & gathered their weapons. the sky people would not come down and take all that they had worked for. there was an incredible advantage working undetected. if your enemies don't even know you exist, you choose the time and the place to fire the first shot. in this case you didn't even need to fire a single shot. this particular alien race had a well know inability to process the sulfur dioxide from the nearby volcano. they were careful to monitor the air & take precautions, but the ease of capturing the humans allowed them to take a much needed break from responsibility & they got lazy. a few large balloons full of gas realeased to the surface was all it took to take out the forces guarding all the camps on the island. this drew out all the others & the fighting began. within hours, much of the island was ablaze & the makeshift camps destroyed. the sky people were no match for the ocean dwellers. over the next week, the winner emerged. many of the prisoners were killed during the exchange, but there were also many who escaped. their battle was just beginning.
